Chinese Style Beef with Vegetables

Exotic Chinese Pan Stir-fry with Beef and Veggies

A dish that bursts with the traditional flavors of Chinese cuisine, the Chinese Style Beef with Vegetables is as vibrant in taste as it is in appearance. The assortment of vegetables not only brings out a medley of colors but also adds a delightful crunch that beautifully contrasts the tender strips of beef. With a hint of garlic, the spiciness of ginger, and the umami-rich soy and oyster sauces, each bite promises an authentic taste of China.

While perfect for a quick weeknight dinner, this dish is versatile enough to be part of a larger, more elaborate meal. The key to mastering it is to ensure the beef is tender and the vegetables retain their crunch – this is achieved through quick, high heat cooking, a technique known as stir-frying. Whether you’re an experienced home cook or a beginner, this recipe is straightforward and forgiving, making it a perfect addition to your culinary repertoire.

Ingredients:

  • 500g beef, cut into strips
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. In a bowl, mix the beef with cornstarch, salt, and pepper. Set aside.
  2. Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat.
  3. Add the beef and fry until it’s browned. Remove it from the pan and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, add the garlic, onion, and ginger and fry until they’re fragrant.
  5. Add the carrots and bell peppers to the pan. Stir-fry for a few minutes until they start to soften.
  6. Return the beef to the pan, add soy sauce and oyster sauce, and stir well to combine.
  7. Cook for a few more minutes until everything is well mixed and heated through.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
